The Piggott bandstand, framed by the buildings along the alley on the north side of the square. Special activities on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 3, 4 and 5 will mark the anniversary of the dedication of the bandstand in the spring of 1988.

In recognition of the anniversary of the dedication of the bandstand, a group of downtown Piggott merchants and business owners are planning several days of special observances and entertainment the first week of April. The event will also include a variety of efforts to raise funds for the Piggott High School Band, and their project to purchase new band uniforms and provide band camp scholarships.

The bandstand, a replica of the original one torn down in the mid-1960's when the new courthouse was built, was completed and dedicated in the spring of 1988. In the decades since it has hosted dozens of live performances and hundreds of weddings, and serves as the centerpiece for the historic downtown area.

Organizers are currently planning two nights of live music at the bandstand, located on the north side of the Piggott square, along with a special sidewalk sale event on Saturday, April 5, coinciding with the annual city wide yard sale.

Supporters of the band, and other non-profit groups and organizations, will also have the opportunity to staff booths on the square during the event in an effort to raise funds for the project. Donations toward the uniform and band camp funds will also be accepted.

The first night of live music will be held Thursday, April 3 and will feature a concert by the Piggott High School band. The band concert is set to begin at 6 p.m. and will be held on the courthouse lawn adjacent to the bandstand. Prior to the concert, at 5:30 p.m., Joe Cole will be conducting a walking history tour of downtown Piggott, sponsored by the Inn at Piggott. Many of the downtown businesses will also be open extended hours.

The second night of live music will be Friday, April 4, and will feature gospel performers. The concert will be held beginning at 6 p.m. on the bandstand and will include performances by Mark Cave, The Bible Fellowship Praise Team and other. At 5:30 p.m., prior to the gospel concert, Cole will again be conducting a walking history tour around the downtown area. There is no charge, and everyone is welcome to participate.

Once again, many of the merchants around the square will be open extended hours for the occasion and some will be holding special sales and promotions.

Saturday, April 5 is the day set for this year's Piggott city wide yard sale and the town will be bustling with activity. The annual Piggott High School FFA Auction is also set for that day, and will be held beginning at 9 a.m. at the Clay County Fairgrounds on East North Street in the city.

The downtown merchants will also be observing city wide yard sale day on Saturday, April 5, with a variety of sidewalk sales and specials. A map of many of the participating sales may be picked up at the Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce office in the depot building.

Those wanting more information on the concerts or fundraising effort may contact Kelli Malin at 870 598-2385 or 870 650-0001. Those wanting additional information on the citywide yard sale may call the chamber office at 870 598-3167.
