Big Weekend At Hand in Piggott Area
The first weekend of April should be a busy one in Piggott, with a variety of events and activities planned. Although the weather looks threatening at this point, two nights of live music are planned for Thursday and Friday, April 3 and 4, on the square in downtown Piggott. Saturday, April 5 the city wide yard sale will be going on throughout the community, and the Piggott High School FFA will be holding their annual farm equipment auction at the fairgrounds. In conjunction with the musical performances and city wide yard sale, many of the downtown merchants will also be observing special hours and sales.
The first events are set for Thursday evening, and will include a free walking history tour of downtown Piggott beginning at 5:30 p.m. Then, at 6 p.m. the Piggott High School band is scheduled to perform adjacent to the bandstand on the north side of the courtyard. In the event of rain, which is in the forecast for Thursday, organizers will attempt to re-schedule the outdoor concert for a later date.
The event was planned to mark the anniversary of the dedication of the bandstand, which was completed in the spring of 1988. Supporters of the band are also currently working to raise money to purchase new uniforms, and send members to band camp, and are accepting donations and organizing fundraisers.
The second night of live music will be Friday, April 4, and will feature gospel performers. The concert will be held beginning at 6 p.m. on the bandstand and will include performances by Mark Cave, the Bible Fellowship Praise Team and others. Once again, Cole will be conducting a free walking history tour of the downtown area sponsored by the Inn at Piggott at 5:30 p.m. and everyone is welcome take part. Many of the merchants around the square will be open extended hours for the occasion and some will be holding special sales and promotions.
Saturday, April 5 is the day set for this year's Piggott city wide yard sale and the town will be bustling with activity. Maps which include many of the participating locations may be picked-up at the chamber office in the depot building on Friday and at Country Mart and the Piggott Diner on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the annual Piggott High School FFA Auction will also be going on throughout the day, and will be held beginning at 9 a.m. at the Clay County Fairgrounds on East North Street in the city.
The downtown merchants will also be observing city wide yard sale day on Saturday, April 5, with a variety of sidewalk sales and specials. Several non-profit organizations have also announced plans to man fundraiser booths that day.
