Severe Weather System Impacts NEARK

Monday, April 28, 2014
Flood waters cover Highway 49 just north of Greenway Monday morning as the result of the overnight storm system.

The death toll from the outbreak of tornadoes on Sunday, April 27 now stands at 14 with the majority of the fatalities reported in the Mayflower and Vilonia areas of central Arkansas. Yet another death was reported just across the White County line in the small community of El Paso, east of Vilonia, where Highways 64 and 5 intersect between Beebe and Conway.

Thanks to the timing of the storm system, most of Northeast Arkansas experienced just heavy rain, wind and hail--which led to a large amount of flooding.

In Clay County flooding was a big problem, with a number of roads closed to traffic and damage to roadbeds, bridges and culverts.

County and city workers were out early in the morning hours of Monday, helping stranded residents and attempting to remove debris from creeks and ditches to allow the water to subside.

But, more rain is in the forecast for Tuesday and the possibility of additional severe weather still exists. The complete weather forecast, including any watches or warnings, may be found here on
