The Piggott Mohawks dropped two conference games in the past week, as the regular season draws to a close for the Tribe. The Mohawks lost to Manila 13-6 last Tuesday, April 22 and then fell to Hoxie by a final of 7-1 on Thursday afternoon. Tuesday's regular season finale was also rained-out, and Coach Shawn Hearn will attend the 3A-3 coaches meeting today (Wednesday, April 30) to determine seedings for next week's district tournament at Rivercrest.

Manila Game

Despite a good game from freshman Bret Fuller, the Tribe dropped a 13-6 decision at Manila last Tuesday. Fuller drove in two of the Mohawk's runs on the game with a fifth inning homerun, preceded by a two-RBI single by Garrett Cook. Andrew Roberts also reached by way of a walk twice, and scored one of the Piggott runs. Also getting hits for the Mohawks were Austin Murray and Mason Rahn.

Rahn also took the loss on the mound, as he pitched four and a one-third innings, giving up six runs on four hits in the process.

The Tribe jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on the Lions in the bottom of the third, but their hosts responded with a big sixth inning as they plated eight runs en-route to the win. Reinhart had a big day at the plate as he went 3 for 4, and Riley and Scoggins combined to notch the win on the mound for the Manila squad.

Hoxie Game

Thursday, April 24 the Mohawks took on the Hoxie Mustangs and dropped a 7-1 decision. Austin Murray got the start for the Tribe, and took the loss, as he gave up all seven of the Mustang runs over the course of five innings. During the course of the game he struck out 5 and walking none of the opposing batters. The talented senior also drove in the Mohawk's only run of the game.

Winning pitcher for the Mustangs was Littlejohn, as he worked four and two-thirds innings to get the victory.

The Tribe had been scheduled to close out the regular season Tuesday, but field conditions have forced cancellation of the game. They'll be back in action next week in the 3A-3 district tournament at Rivercrest, with opponent and schedule to be determined.

The complete bracket will be posted to cctimesdemocrat.com when it is made available.

Meanwhile, the Piggott Lady Mohawks dropped a pair of conference games in the past week, and were slated to wrap-up the regular season Tuesday afternoon against Rivercrest. But, due to poor field conditions at Piggott the game was to be played at Brookland.

Going into the season finale, and based on recent losses to both Rivercrest and Corning, the Lady Mohawks now stand as the fourth seeded team in 3A-3 but could improve their prospects with a win over the Lady Colts on Tuesday.

"We could have been the top seed, but dropped a couple of close games," noted Lady Mohawk Head Coach Nikki Speer. "But, things could change and we could easily be at least the three seed going into next week's district tournament."

Currently in the mix along with the Tribe are Rivercrest, Corning and Harrisburg.

The seedings will be determined at a meeting today (Wednesday, April 30) and will be posted to cctimesdemocrat.com

This year's district is set to be played at Corning, but due to field conditions conference officials may decide to hold it at an alternate location. That issue will also be decided Wednesday.
