Mohawk Track Teams Have Busy Week

The Mohawk track teams were in action in the past week, with the junior team taking part in a practice meet at Pocahontas and the senior team competing in the Arnold Relays on Monday, April 28 at Paragould High School.

Tuesday the junior squad was en-route to Earle for the 3A-3 junior district track meet, but were informed that too much water at Earle had forced postponement of the event.

Arnold Senior Relays

The Mohawk senior team took part in the Arnold Relays at Paragould High School, and came in sixth with 36 points. Taking first place in the relays was 7A Jonesboro High School, followed by Forest City, Nettleton, Palestine-Wheatley, Gosnell and then the Mohawks. In all, there were athletes on hand from a total of 21 regional schools.

Checking results from the meet--

Mohawk sprinters Bradley Stephens and Nick McKinnie finished seventh and eighth in the 100 meter dash, with Stephens recording a time of 11.8 and McKinnie coming in on his heels at 11.82.

The talented duo then went out and took second and third in the 200 meter dash, with Stephens edging McKinnie with a 23.97 to a 24.08.

Meanwhile, Bryan Samples ran 12th in the 400 meters and Justin Clifford was 16th in the 800.

Caleb Welborn made a good showing in the 1600 meter with a fourth place finish at 5:28.63. And in the other distance event, the 3200 meter race, Piggott's Lee Austin was third with a time of 12:37.15 while Mohawk Brady McPherson was ninth with a time of 14:40.37.

The Mohawk 4x100 relay team was sixth with a time of 45:86 and then took fourth in the 4x400 with a time of 3:47.13. The relay team consisted of Stephens, McKinnie, Logan Dixon and Freshman Justin Goding who was running for Nick Haywood after he pulled a muscle.

Meanwhile, the PHS 4x800 team took sixth with a time of 10:48.28 with Stephens, Dixon, McKinnie and Welborn each running a leg.

In field events Lady Mohawk MollyDaffron was sixth in the discus with a throw of 74-8. And, for the boy's team Seth Lacy made a good showing as he put the shot 38-10.

The junior high 3A-3 district track meet is now set for this Thursday, May 1 at Earle High School, with the senior high district to be held Friday, May 2. Meanwhile, the 3A state track meet will be held beginning Tuesday, May 6 at Morrilton High School and is hosted by Perryville High.
