Lady Cougars, Mohawks Advance in District

The Rector Lady Cougars rolled into the district championship softball game, set for noon today, Saturday, May 3, at Lepanto with an 8-2 win over BIC on Friday afternoon. Meanwhile, at Corning the Lady Mohawks punched their ticket to the semi-finals of the 3A-3 district, also set for noon today, with a 6-3 come-from-behind win over Manila. Down in Wilson the baseball Mohawks saw their season end at the hands of the fourth seeded Lions of Manila 11-1.

The Lady Cougars will face familiar foe Marmaduke in today's final, after the Lady 'Hounds endured a 14-12 slugfest with Marked Tree.

The Lady Mohawks will be taking on top-seeded Rivercrest in their semi-final, with the winner advancing to the championship game set for 4 p.m. on Monday, May 5. The early game today was between Hoxie and Harrisburg with the winner facing second-seeded Corning in the other semi-final at 2 p.m.

As for the Tribe, they fell to Manila after advancing over Hoxie in the first round. Meanwhile, Rivercrest beat Osceola 10-0 to set up today's semi-finals. In the 11:30 a.m. game Harrisburg will take on the Colts while in the second game it will be Corning and Manila.

The baseball Cougars saw their season end at the hands of Riverside earlier in the week, losing a 2-1 extra inning affair.
