Mohawks Beat Mustangs, Fall to Lions

Thursday, May 8, 2014

The Piggott Mohawks saw their season come to an end Friday afternoon, losing 10-0 to the Manila Lions in the second round of the 3A-3 district baseball tournament at Rivercrest.

On Thursday afternoon the Tribe took on the Hoxie Mustangs in the first round, and took the victory by a final score of 6-5.

The Mohawks advanced over the Mustangs behind a strong pitching performance by Mason Rahn, who gave up only 6 hits while striking out 4. Pacing the squad at the plate was freshman Bret Fuller, as he went 2 for 3 and drove in three of the Mohawk runs. Meanwhile, Garrett Cook and Bryce Howard were both 2 for 4 in the win.

With the victory the Tribe advanced to the second round, and the 4 p.m. start on Friday in the game they eventually lost to the Manila Lions.

The loss ends what has been a disappointing season for the Mohawks, and coaches Shawn Hearn and Alan Rabjohn. Hampered by weather, the Tribe never found their stride and struggled throughout much of the campaign.

The Mohawks will also bid farewell to six seniors from this year's squad, as Austin Murray, Mason Rahn, Will Jett, Jeff Muier, Teddy Gregory and Andrew Roberts are all set to graduate.
