Lady Cougars Fall at State
Foreman scored all four of its runs without the benefit of a hit and went on to shut out Rector, 4-0, in the first round of the Class 2A State Tournament Friday afternoon at Marked Tree.
Crystal Kegley fired a one-hit complete game whitewash while striking out six Lady Cougars to pick up the win for the Lady Bulldogs. Cheyenne Ellis' clean single in the top of the seventh inning was the only hit the Lady Cougars could manage off Kegley.
Foreman scratched across a run in the bottom of the first inning on a groundout. The Lady Bulldogs added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth, all with two outs. Back to back walks and a fielder's choice loaded the bases. Foreman scored one run on a wild pitch by Rector hurler Colby Lynch, and added two more runs on a Lady Cougar throwing error.
Lynch took the loss, pitching six innings, allowing four runs, three unearned, while giving up four hits on the day.
"We got a great pitched game today from Crystal Kegley," said Foreman coach Richard McMillan. "Rector is a good team, but we found a way to get it done today."
"A couple of errors did us in today," said Lady Cougar Coach Louis Ernest. "We couldn't get our bats going today, which is unusual for us. But their pitcher did a great job. Foreman is a solid team, and I give all the credit in the world to them," said Ernest.
