Spring Fun-Fly Set at Piggott

Thursday, May 29, 2014
Despite the fact flooded conditions at Pfeiffer Field forced last spring's fun fly to be moved to the Piggott Airport, a good crowd of flyers and spectators were on hand for what turned out to be a one-day event. Among the entries were this P-51 Mustang, framed by the shimmer of the standing floodwater in the background.

The Piggott Radio Control Modelers (PRCM) are set to host their 17th annual spring fun-fly, coming up this Saturday and Sunday, May 31 and June 1, at the RC Park in Piggott.

The schedule calls for open flying on the morning of Saturday, May 31 with scale static judging, a fun-fly, air combat and show-off competitions set for the afternoon. There will also be night-flying after the sun sets for those interested.

Sunday morning activities begin at 9 a.m. with open and feature flying, followed at 1 p.m. by the show-off competitions and air combat.

The awards ceremony will be held around 2 p.m., followed by open flying as long as the participants remain.

AMA insurance is required for those wanting to fly, and a $10 landing fee covers both days. There is no charge for admission for spectators, and the public is encouraged to attend both days. Organizers note concessions will be available, and there are Port-A-Potties on site.

The fun-fly will be held at Piggott's Pfeiffer Field, located three-quarters of a mile east of the L.A. Darling Plant on the southeast corner of Piggott. In the event of heavy rain, or a wet field, the event will move to the Piggott Airport located just east of the city on U.S. Highway 62.
