Rector Native Killed in Kennett Shooting

Allan Branum, 51, of Kennett has been charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the May 22 shooting death of his wife, Regena Branum.

The victim was a native of Rector and operated Allan Branum's Disposal Service in Kennett with her husband.

According to authorities, Mrs. Branum was shot in the head at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday at 305 North Jackson Street in Kennett. She was airlifted to Elvis Presley Memorial Trauma Center in Memphis, where she later died.

Police said the weapon used in the shooting was a .38 caliber revolver.

The Dunklin County Major Case Squad was activated to assist in the investigation.

Branum's bond was set at $250,000 and he remains in jail at the Dunklin County Justice Center in Kennett. He has waived formal arraignment and has a hearing set for 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, before Judge John Spielman.

Daughter Jennifer Branum Walton, who lives in Rector, issued a statement concerning the operation of the disposal company:

"Branum's Disposal Service is still in business. We are going to continue on with our service as usual, nothing will change. We appreciate your business and thank you for your continued support in this time of tragedy."
