RC Fly-In Draws Large Crowd

Thursday, June 5, 2014
Over 30 pilots, with hundreds of aircraft, were on hand for the Piggott RC Modelers Club spring fly-in.

Weather conditions were good for the 17th annual Piggott RC Club Spring Fly-In, held Saturday and Sunday at Pfeiffer Field. The annual spring fly-in regularly draws dozens of flyers, and hundreds of spectators, and unlike last year the 2014 event remained dry for the most part.

Organizers report there were 30 registered pilots on hand for the event, with about 100 different planes on display. Those on hand also brought back-ups, offering visitors to the event the chance to see a wide variety of RC models.

A number of the participants also camped at the flying field, while others took advantage of the other local lodgings.

A steady south wind and clear conditions made for good flying for the annual Spring Fly In at Pfeiffer Field in Piggott.

The roster of pilots included local flyers, plus pilots from the Dyersburg and Jackson areas of Tennessee, Henderson and Sturgis in Kentucky, Kennett, Sikeston and Gideon Missouri along with entrants from Corning, Paragould and Jonesboro.

The show, which is sponsored by the local RC club, included open flying, scale-static judging, air combat and the show-off competition. Some of the braver flyers also took part in night flying Saturday evening.
