Demolition Derby Season Opener is Set

Thursday, June 12, 2014
Demolition derby action is scheduled to return to the Clay County Fairgrounds in Piggott this Saturday, June 14. Fans can expect a full evening of excitement, such as this scene from the derby held in April of last year.

Just in time for Father's Day weekend, the Clay County Fair Association announces the return of demolition derby action for 2014. The season of metal-crunching fun was slated to get underway last Saturday, June 7, but wet weather forced organizers to postpone. With much better weather on tap for the coming weekend, the first demolition derby of the year will be held beginning at 7 p.m. this Saturday, June 14.

The evening will actually kick-off at 6:30 p.m. with the popular pee wee derby, followed by the main event.

Members of the Clay County Junior Fair Board will also set up a tent, and will be selling items in support of their scholarship fund. And, the concession stand will also be open for business, featuring such favorites as deep-fried double-stuffed Oreos, funnel cakes, deep-fried Twinkies, barbecue sandwiches and barbecue nachos. The menu also includes burgers, hotdogs, and a wide variety of snacks and drinks.

Gate admission for the derby is $6, pit passes are $10 and kids age five and under are admitted free. Fans are also encouraged to "like" the Clay County Fair Association on Facebook, follow them on Twitter and check their website at
