Local Team Ropers Competing at NHSFR
Local team ropers Ty Haney of Rector, and Ethan Murray of Piggott, are in Rock Springs, Wyo., this week, competing in the National High School Finals Rode. The local students, who will both be juniors this fall, earned the trip to the prestigious event by way of a good showing at the Kentucky State National High School Rodeo in June, taking third in the team roping.
Murray is a student a Piggott High School, and Haney a student at Rector High. The talented young men entered the competition as the top-ranked team in the state of Kentucky last month, but stumbled a bit and finished third. But, the top four automatically advanced the duo to the pinnacle of their sport, and a spot in the 66th annual NHSFR.
Competing in events in Oklahoma and Colorado along the way, the ropers and their traveling companions made their way to Wyoming. Haney and Murray were scheduled to rope around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15, and again around 10 a.m. local time on Thursday, July 17, as they look to advance to Saturday's finals.
Again, this year the Saturday championship performance will be televised nationally as part of the "Cinch High School Rodeo Tour" telecast series on RFD-TV. Live broadcasts of each NHSFR performance will also air online at NHSRATV.com The Performance times are 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. each day.
