Piggott All Stars Come Up Short at State
The Piggott Little League 11 and 12 year old All Stars dropped two straight in the state tournament at White Hall last week, losing to Rosston on Friday evening and then falling to Union County on Saturday. In the words of the team's coach, Billy Joe Seal, "I just wish we could have played to our full potential."
On Friday evening the local All Star squad took on Rosston, and dropped a 10-0 decision.
They came back Saturday to face Union County, only to see their opponents jump out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first. But, the Piggott squad responded in the home half of the frame, and with the benefit of an Austin Crow grand slam homerun, took a 7-4 lead in the second.
But, the Union County pitching put the clamps on the Piggott batters, holding them scoreless the remaining innings as they advanced with a 17-7 final. "We never could get anything else going after that," Seal observed about the loss.
Seal, along with the team members and their parents, did offer a word of thanks to everyone who made the trip to the state tournament possible. "We want to say thanks all the people and businesses who made donations and supported us," he surmised.
Team members included Austin Crow, Matthew Cheshire, Michael Palmer, Jackie Henfling, Holden Tarno, Cooper Harris, Nate Lemmons, Brandon Seal, Logan Ralph and Braden Ralph.
