Storm System Brings Wind Damage to Region

The showroom of Cox Lumber Company following the wind storm which removed much of the roof of the local business, allowing hundreds of gallons of rain water to pour into the structure.

A strong frontal system pushed the region on Wednesday, July 23, causing widespread wind damage.

Hardest hit in Piggott was Cox Lumber Company, as the roof of the local business was severely damaged causing water damage in the showroom area.

Hobbs Siding and Windows, located on the east edge of the city on Main Street, also suffered damage as the roof of their lumber shed fell victim to high winds and ended up against several nearby trees, and scattered across the lot behind Hog Wild Barbecue.

Additional minor roof damage was also noted, as well as numerous downed limbs and small trees. City of Piggott officials also reported a transformer failed near Heritage Park, resulting in some outages in the immediate area.

According to the National Weather Service wind damage was widespread, although there were no reports of injuries. Top speeds generated by the storm system were around 60 miles per hour, although higher gusts were reported in some area.

On the positive side, passage of the frontal system brought with it cooler and drier weather for at least the next few days.
