Municipal Filing Period Continues
The filing period for the 2014 municipal election is now underway, although there are currently no contested local races. The filing period began Friday, and as of Monday afternoon four local candidates had submitted the necessary paperwork.
Earlier this year Alderman Jim Poole, of Piggott, announced his candidacy for the office of mayor and he has now officially filed. Poole is currently mid-way through a four year term on city council. And, recently Piggott City Clerk Ramona Magee announced she was also seeking re-election to another term, and she has also filed for another term in office.
As of the end of business on Tuesday, July 29, the other candidates who have filed for a re-election bid in Piggott included Alderman Jamey Parks, for South Ward, Position Two and Mike Cook, for alderman from North Ward, Position Two.
The Clay County Clerk's office also reports two candidates have thrown their hats into the ring at Rector, as long time member of city council Teresa L. Roofe has filed for mayor and Lark Sigsby has filed as a candidate for city council, East Ward, Position One.
The filing period for the municipal election began Friday, July 25, and will end at noon on Friday, Aug. 15.
