Bobby E. Montgomery
Bobby E. Montgomery, 82, of Piggott, Ark., passed away Thursday, July 31, 2014, at the Heritage Nursing Home in Kennett, Mo.
He was born on October 13, 1931, in Piggott, Ark., and was the son of the late Claude O. Montgomery, Sr. and Vera Mae (Braden) Montgomery.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Claude Jr. and Donald and four sisters: Twyla, Pagene, Elaine and Alice.
Survivors include one brother, Rex Montgomery of West Plains, Mo. and three sisters: Claudena Bellers, Annetta Rogers, and Barbara Montgomery all of Piggott, Ark. He was also survived by many nephews and nieces and other relatives and also by many friends.
Bob served his country in the early 1950's during the Korean War. He served with his local National Guard Unit, which was inducted into the regular Army during this time. Stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, he worked in a hospital. When he was discharged from the Army, he came back to the U.S.A. and started working for Brown Shoe Company of Piggott. A job he would keep for over 30 years. He also worked for the City of Piggott Water and Sewer Department, with his friends, reading water meters-something he did for around 15 years. After this he retired from the workforce.
He spent his retirement watching his nephews and nieces playing sports. Bob also loved his Mohawk sports, his St. Louis Cardinals baseball and his Arkansas Razorbacks.
During his earlier years, he attended the First Church of God in Piggott, Ark. He also had a great love for gospel music.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, at Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Loy Culver officiating. Burial will be in Piggott Cemetery in Piggott, Arkansas. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Ark., is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be held beginning at noon, Sunday and will continue until the time of the services at the funeral home.
