There was big news from the members of the Clay County Fair Board in the past week, as they have announced the addition of a carnival to the 2014 event. The annual Clay County Fair is scheduled to be held Sept. 10, to 13, at the fairgrounds in Piggott. According to the fair board, the organization recently entered into an agreement with Crescent City Amusements, of Slidell, La., to bring their carnival to the local fair. Organizers of the fair are also currently seeking vendors for this year's event, and are encouraging groups and individuals to make plans to enter the annual parade.

"We're happy to welcome Crescent City Amusements to this year's fair," noted Fair Manager Marty Conley. "They're going to bringing 15 to 18 rides and attractions, and so far the feedback from the public has been positive."

Crescent City Amusements if a family operated business, and has primarily worked the summer county fairs of Minnesota the past 10 years. The firm's website notes the company offers "delicious food, exciting rides for all ages and a wide variety of games of skill and chance."

The amusement company also boasts shaded rest areas, and baby changing stations, to add to the comfort of their guests. Company officials also point to the firm's safety record, noting safety is their number one priority.

"Armbands are already on sale for $15, which are good for all day, and all evening, on Saturday, Sept. 13," Conley noted. "But, they will be $20 each the week of the fair.

Advance armband sales are currently underway at the following locations-Jones Furniture, The Treasure Chest, Piggott State Bank, Casey's General Store, Petals and More and First National Bank in Piggott; Rector Water Department, Rector Downtown Drug and Crancer/Sigsby Insurance in Rector and at Cate's Pharmacy and the Corning Area Chamber of Commerce office in Corning.

"We're also seeking vendors for this year's fair," Conley added. "The cost of a 10x10 booth is $40 per day, and the vendor must provide their own tables, chairs and tents."

Conley noted vendors will have the chance to take advantage of some of the largest fair crowds in several years, and encouraged interested persons to contact Sean Martin at 870 476-9752.

The annual fair parade will be held beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, and entries are currently being sought.

"We need floats, cars, tractors, horses, bands and four-wheelers for the parade," Conley explained. "And, prizes will be awarded to the winners in several categories."

The parade participants will line-up beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Piggott, with the parade route taking the procession to the fairgrounds by way of Main Street and North Garfield, Avenue.
