HOF Golf Tournament to Honor Clopton
The Rector High School Sports Hall of Fame golf tournament will honor one of the organization's most faithful sponsors and outstanding friends of the community, Dr. Owen Clopton, Jr. Organizers of the annual tournament have announced this year's event will be played in honor of the late Dr. Clopton, a native of the area who maintained strong ties to the community while becoming of the state's most renowned doctors through his medical work in Jonesboro at The Clopton Clinic and St. Bernards.
Clopton's associates have taken up his support of the RHS Sports Hall of Fame, as The Clopton Clinic and St. Bernards are pleased to announce they have become title sponsors of the annual golf tournament on behalf of their respected friend and mentor. The tournament will be held Friday, Aug. 29 at the Kennett Country Club.
"We are excited about the generosity of Clopton Clinic and St. Bernards," tournament organizer Michael Lindsey said. "Everyone involved is pleased to be able to honor our longtime friend and supporter. Dr. Owen Clopton, Jr. By having our tournament honor him, we want to acknowledge his work as an influential doctor in northeast Arkansas and his efforts to support our organization."
The golf tournament serves as one of the main fundraisers for the RHS Sports Hall of Fame. The organization was established to honor standouts involved in the Rector, Greenway and Clay County Central High School sports programs while also serving as an outstanding contributor to the current Rector High School athletic programs through numerous donations and scholarships.
"Becoming a member of this organization will make one an important part of helping honor past athletes while also supporting future ones," Lindsey said. "Essentially, it has become a booster club while also preserving our sports history. This tournament would not be possible without the support of each player and sponsor."
The latest sponsors join a long list of supporters.
"We are very thankful for the tremendous support of our local businesses who have also been very faithful in the participation in the success of this tournament," Lindsey said. We are very fortunate to have such great support from these businesses."
