Bobby Richardson will perform at the special singing Sunday to benefit one of the local food pantries

Thankfully, there are many people who have never experienced the trauma of being truly hungry--of not knowing where their family's next meal is coming from. Unfortunately, in these hard economic times more and more families are forced into making difficult decisions. Luckily for Piggott area residents, the Helping Hands Food Pantry is working to try to help alleviate for some area residents some of the stress involved in putting food on the table.

The food pantry is a joint effort of the congregations of the First United Methodist Church of Piggott and Wright's Chapel United Methodist Church. And, although the pantry receives a great deal of support, the need is great.

In an effort to help support the food pantry, a special benefit musical program will be held beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, at the First United Methodist Church of Piggott. Guest performer for the fundraiser will be Bobby Richardson of Nashville, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Richardson, of Piggott.

Richardson, who has called Nashville home since 2005, has performed in several productions of the world's most well-known symphonic works, as well as some of the best-loved operas.

He appears regularly with the Nashville Symphony, and the Nashville Opera, and in 2013 made his debut with the Nashville Philharmonic in their production of "Amahl and the Night Visitors" as King Kaspar. Richardson is also a staff singer with St. George's Episcopal Church.

Also on the program for Sunday's fundraiser will be a performance by the First United Methodist Choir, which is made up of dedicated volunteers from both Wright's Chapel United Methodist and First United Methodist Church. Also performing will be Sandra Routszong, Kenneth Renshaw and Louis Lin.

Renshaw is the choir director, and Routszong is the accompanist, while Lin is one of Renshaw's students. Renshaw and Routszong will also be performing several popular piano/organ duets.

Organizers note the event will offer the chance for area residents to enjoy an afternoon of wonderful music, and an opportunity to support a very worthwhile cause.

The First United Methodist Church is located at the corner of North Third Avenue, and West Jackson Street, in Piggott. The public is cordially invited, and encouraged, to attend.
