William "Pete" B. Garner
William (Pete) B. Garner, 74, was called to Heaven on August 18, 2014. He was born on December 18, 1939, in Greenway, Ark., where he lived until the age of 20. He married Nellie Simmons on Dec. 10, 1960, in St. Louis, Mo. They were married for 54 years and spent 20 of those years living in Alhambra, Ill. To this union, two sons were born, David of Hamel, Ill. and Douglas of Staunton, Ill. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Dustin (wife Megan), Megan (fiancÚ' Kyle), Eric and Nicholas, whom he loved very much.
Pete served in the National Guard from 1959 to 1965. He also served as a police officer at the volunteer police department in Bethalto, Ill. for seven years. But, most of all he will be known for his wonderful gardens year after year. Everyone was welcome at all times, day or night, and his heart was open to everyone. He was a man of strong faith, and read and studied his Bible every day. Pete will be missed by many and will be remembered for his kind heart, generosity and sense of humor. His love for animals was beyond measure; from feeding the birds, his three cats, to the stray rooster in the yard. He opened his heart to all animals very easily.
Heaven gained a great man and the best gardener, but now he has gone home to tend the gardens in Heaven. You will be sorely missed.
He will be cremated at St. Louis Cremation in St. Louis, Mo. At his request, there will be no memorial service.
