Dean Ferguson, 73, of Florissant, Missouri, formerly of Rector, passed from this life on Monday, September 8, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis after a brave battle with cancer.
He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Myrtle Ferguson, sister, Melba Lanier and an infant child.
He is survived by two sons and one daughter, Jeffrey (Serena) Ferguson of Florissant, Mo., Leisa (Frank) Carpenter of St. Charles, Mo., and Joshua (Sam) Ledford of Zeeland, Michigan; one brother, James (Darlene) Ferguson of Eldon, Mo.; and four sisters, Millie Stiles of Portage, Mich., Doris Mygatt of St. Charles, Mo., Lorene Hand of Edwardsville, Ill., and Peggy Ferguson of Paragould. Other survivors include seven grandchildren, Zachary and Jacob Ferguson, Joshua and Abby Carpenter, Joe, Noah, and JJ Ledford; one great-granddaughter, Kendall Ferguson; many nieces and nephews; one special daughter-in-law, Barb; a forever friend and fishing buddy, Ray; and many dear friends made along this journey.
Dean proudly served in the U S Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal, CVA-59 on active duty from April 24, 1959 until May 16, 1962, and in the Reserves until April 24, 1965 as Petty Officer 3rd Class SK3.
Dean enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking and canning, BBQs, landscaping and working on his home. He is a past City Councilman in Arnold, Mo., a Mason, and a Shriner.
He took early retirement from American National Can Company, and then became a consultant for that company in France and Mexico.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at Mitchell Funeral Home in Rector. A memorial service officiated by Kenny Burns will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector.
