Alma Mae Blake
Alma Mae (Sherraden) Blake, 98, of Piggott, Ark., passed away Sunday, September 21, 2014, at the General Baptist Nursing Home in Piggott, Ark.
She was born on December 25, 1915, in Piggott, Ark., and was the daughter of the late Charles Albert Holifield and Carrie Vaughn Sherraden Holifield and stepfather, Jim Holifield.
She was united in marriage to Boyce Owen Blake on Feb. 11, 1933, and to this union four children were born - Doilus Dewayne, Millicent Yvonne, Alma Joyce and Robbie Lee.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Boyce Owen Blake; two daughters, Robbie Simpson and Joyce Tanner; one brother, Charles Sherraden; a half-brother, Ardell Holifield; two stepbrothers, Homer Holifield and Loyd Holifieldand one half-sister, Betty Donahue.
Alma Mae was a lifelong member of Wright's Chapel United Methodist Church in Piggott, and was the children's Sunday school teacher for many years. She was active in the Piggott Community Hospital Auxiliary and the Piggott E.H.C. She also worked at Roeder's Ben Franklin Store in Piggott.
Survivors include her son, Doilus Dewayne Blake and wife Jacqueline of Athens, Ala.; a daughter, Millicent Hinkle and husband Charles of Piggott,; six grandsons, Lane Hinkle of Piggott, Thad Hinkle of Dover, Ark., Brant Tanner of Piggott, Blake Tanner of Piggott, Byron Blake of Huntsville, Ala. and Tyler Blake of Olathe, Kan.; two granddaughters, Lisa Lancaster of Little Rock and Cynthia Stenger of Killen, Ala.; six great-grandsons, Seth Hinkle of Paragould, Chase Hinkle of Marmaduke, Cole Tanner of Piggott, Clay Tanner of Piggott, Turner Blake of Branson, and Grant Lancaster of Little Rock; five great-granddaughters, Carlee Hinkle of Dover, Ark., Sydney Hinkle of Dover, Ark., Morgan Tanner of Little Rock, Hadlee Blake of Olathe, Kan. and Amanda Blake-Mellon of Kansas City, Mo.; a great-great granddaughter, Charli Hinkle of Marmaduke; one half-brother, Melvin Holifield, of Pollard, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Andy Newbill officiating. Burial is in Piggott Cemetery in Piggott, Ark. Pallbearers are grandsons, Lane Hinkle, Thad Hinkle, Brant Tanner, Blake Tanner, Tyler Blake and Byron Blake. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be held beginning at 12:00, noon, Tuesday and will continue until service time at the funeral home.
