Vahleda Madeline Gipson

Vahleda Madeline Gipson, 91, was born in Greenway, Ark., on January 2, 1923 and died on September 19, 2014 in Oklahoma City, Okla. She was the daughter of Robert and Myrtle (Hasty) Ward.

After graduating from Piggott High School in 1941, she married L.T. "Hoot" Gipson and they celebrated 73 years of marriage in May. They were Piggott residents before moving to Jonesboro in 1957 and then to Oklahoma City in 2008.

She is survived by her husband, L.T.; a son Mike and his wife Peggy, of Oklahoma City; three granddaughters, Stephanie Denny (Mike) of Sapulpa, Okla., Mandy Netherton (Kevin) of Orlando, Fla. and Jenny Gipson of Oklahoma City; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Vernon (Brenda) Ward of Arlington, Tenn. and a brother-in-law, Bill Gipson, of Ocala, Fla.

In her working years Vahleda worked as a dental assistant and had a dog-grooming business. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

There will be a family graveside service.
