Lady Mohawk Volleyball Update
The Piggott Lady Mohawks stumbled along the conference trail last week, dropping a set to the Hoxie Lady Mustangs on Tuesday, on the road. But, the Tribe rebounded on Thursday; sweeping new conference members Cedar Ridge in dominate fashion. The junior squad had the same results, falling to the Junior Lady Mustangs on Tuesday, then dominating the Lady Timberwolves on Thursday.
The Lady Mohawks, coming off a non-conference loss to Kennett at home on Monday, visited the Lady Mustangs of Hoxie last Tuesday, Sept. 16.
In the junior high set the hosts swept the Junior Mohawks in straight games, taking the set 25-12 and 25-11.
Then, in the senior high match the Lady Mustangs took three games straight, 25-21, 25-20 and 25-14 to notch the conference win.
The Lady Mohawks looked to rebound on Monday, Sept. 22, as they hosted Cedar Ridge at the PHS gym.
In the early match the junior Lady Mohawks took the set in two straight games, winning 25-13 and 25-1 for the conference victory. Leading the way was freshman Hannah Powell, who was 20 of 20 from the service line, while Lexi Herren was 15 of 16 serving and Emily Trosper had five kills in the win.
Meanwhile, the senior squad had similar success over their new conference foes, as they took the set 25-6, 25-8 and 25-22. Pacing the offense was sophomore Colby Crossfield, who was 17 of 17 from the service line with 5 aces. Crossfield also had 23 assists on the night. Also excelling for the Tribe was Quest Emerson, who was 11 of 11 serving on the night, and MaKalia Beck, who added 10 kills.
The Lady Mohawks were scheduled to take on Midland Monday evening, but results were not available as of press time. Then, on Tuesday, the Tribe got a big conference win at home over Walnut Ridge. Next, they will visit Crowley's Ridge Academy this Thursday, Sept. 25. Next Monday, Sept. 29, they're slated to travel to Pocahontas for a non-conference set with the Lady Redskins. And, on Tuesday, Sept. 30, they'll get a re-match with Hoxie as the Lady Mustangs will visit PHS.
