Three members of the Piggott Mohawk golf teams have qualified for the state tournament in 3A, as the fall season draws to a close for the players and Coach Alan Rabjohn. Earlier this week, both the boys and girls squads competed in the 3A-4 district at Sugar Creek Country Club with each team qualifying players for state.

In team play the Rivercrest Lady Colts came out on top of the girls bracket with a 183, while Cedar Ridge's boys team blistered the course at SCCC to take the title. Meanwhile, Corning finished second in boy's play, Piggott and Rivercrest tied for third and Manila was 12 strokes back of the Tribe.

Lady Mohawks

For the Lady Mohawks, Ashlee Vaughn will be making her second appearance in a row, as she was low medalist on the day with a 96, edging Shannon Forrister of Rivercrest by four strokes.

Meanwhile, Grayson Murray turned in a 150, good enough for 11th and a spot among the top 12 slated to advance.

They're joined by Forrister, Madison Groble of Rivercrest, Natalie Price of Corning, Taylor Adams of Manila, Katie Woodard of Corning, Allison Russom of Corning, Courtnine Dunlap of Rivercrest, Chelsi Trapp of Rivercrest, Mackinah Davis of Corning and Kaitlyn Fitzgerald of Hoxie.

These 12 talented young ladies and others from across the state were slated to compete Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the Lion's Club Municipal Golf Course in El Dorado. A full report may be found in the Oct. 8, edition of the CCTD.

Mohawk Boys

The Mohawk boys team tied for third in team play with a 312, with Noah May leading the way with a 92, which was good enough to get him a spot in next week's boy's 3A state tournament. Meanwhile, for the Tribe it was Jordan Blascoe with a 109, Peyton Mann had a 111 and Reese Gurley carded a 112.

The Timberwolves of Cedar Ridge took the boy's title with a 231, as they had scores of 74, 76, 81 and 96 by Ethan Weaver, Taylor Ford, Tanner Vinson and Austin Reaves.

May will be competing, along with the other qualifiers from 3A, at the state tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at De Gray Lake State Park Golf Course at Bismarck.
