Gurtha Jane Sanders
Gurtha Jane Sanders, 90, of Moore, Okla., entered into eternal life on October 7, 2014. She was born on October 19, 1923, in Carryville, Ark., to Blanche and Dewey Bellers. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Joe and Junior.
Jane married Melvin R. Sanders, her high school sweetheart, on Sept. 2, 1945, at the Presbyterian Church in Piggott. They were blessed with three children, Mary Jane Hamblen, James Marcus Sanders and Cynthia Ann Sanders. She had eight grandchildren, Paul, Angela, Amanda, Adam, Meredith, Amber, Michael and Lindsey and six great-grandchildren, Shaun, Morgan, Liam, Cody, Ava and Marcus. After graduation Jane packed her one suitcase and took off for St. Louis, and became a "Rosie the Riveter" for the Emerson company, making bullets for machine guns and the machine gun turrets during the war. After the war she attended Beauty School in St. Louis. Jane worked as a beautician in Piggott until they started their family at which time she became a Mother and homemaker. After her children were grown, Jane worked outside the home as a daycare worker and sold Avon. Jane was very active in the First Baptist Church in Moore, Okla. She worked in the church nursery for 10 years and was an active member in the choir for 15 years.
Visitation and funeral service for Jane were held at John Ireland Funeral Home in Moore, on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, and on Friday, Oct. 10, a second service was held at Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home in Piggott. Afterward, she was laid to rest next to her husband in the Piggott Cemetery.
