Basketball season got underway Monday, Nov. 10, for the Piggott Lady Mohawks as they traveled to Maynard and dropped a non-conference pair to the Lady Tigers. Meanwhile, the junior and senior boys will play a pair at home this week, and will be on the road at Gosnell and Maynard next week as the non-conference schedule continues.

The girls team began their campaign under new head coach Barry DeHart Monday night, dropping a non-conference set at Maynard. The senior girls fell in their contest by a final of 63-51 while the young junior girls squad dropped their opener 41-10.

For the senior girls, Devyn Staples had the hot hand with 17 in the loss, McKenzie Hopkins finished with 7, Micah Hobbs had 6, Bailey Pollard and Grayson Murray had 5 each and Shelby Chavez and Alexa DeHart finished with 4 each.

The Lady Mohawks were scheduled to visit Walnut Ridge in non-conference play this Friday, but that game will be postponed due to the fact the Bobcat football team is in the 2A playoffs. They're slated to visit Rector next Tuesday, Nov. 18, and will host Armorel on Tuesday, Nov. 25, before taking off for the Thanksgiving weekend break.

The Tribe will open at home Thursday, Nov. 13, as they host the Marmaduke Greyhounds. They'll be back in action in the friendly confines of the PHS gym on Friday, Nov. 14, as well as the Armorel Tigers visit for a non-conference set. Next Tuesday, Nov. 18 the Tribe will visit the Pirates at Gosnell and on Friday, Nov. 21, they're slated to travel to Maynard before taking off for the Thanksgiving break.
