Tip-Off Night Set at RHS to Mark Start of Hoops Season

Basketball season is underway in Rector. The Lady Cougars got things rolling Tuesday night with a visit to Pocahontas. The Lady Cougars are set to play host to the Corning Lady Bobcats beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday in Rector in a meeting of county rivals. The girls and boys of Rector will play host to the Armorel Lady Tigers and Tigers beginning at 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17 The Lady Cougars are also slated to host county rival Piggott beginning at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18. Marked Tree will visit the Lady Cougars starting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20.

On the boys' side, the Cougars have seen their first two games postponed, as both Pocahontas and Corning are taking part in their respective football playoffs. The Cougars will begin their regular season play when Armorel comes to Rector beginning at 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17. The Cougars will host Maynard at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18 and Marked Tree at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21.

The Cougar and Lady Cougar senior and junior high teams will take part in an inter-squad scrimmage contest in a special Tip-Off Night starting at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14 at the RHS gym. The event will feature a performance by Cougar cheerleaders of all ages, the RHS band and the presentation of the peewee girls and boys teams.

Admission to the contest is free, and the first 600 attendees will receive a ticket redeemable for a hot dog, chips and bottle of water.

Those wanting to give back to the program are encouraged to bring one, or more, towel, laundry detergent or bottle of Gatorade for use by the athletic department. These items are valuable contributions throughout the basketball season.
