Piggott Christmas Fest at Hand

Old St. Nick stops to visit with kids along the route, during the 2013 Piggott Christmas Parade.

The Piggott Area Chamber of Commerce invites everyone to attend the annual Christmas Fest, set for this weekend on the downtown square. This year the annual holiday event will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7.

In recent years the Christmas Fest was held on Saturdays, but an ice storm last year forced the move to a Sunday afternoon. Based on the feedback from vendors and the public, the chamber board decided to make the move for the 2014 event.

"Except for the change of day, the schedule of events will be much as it has been in years past," noted chamber secretary Jan Glover. "Santa and Mrs. Claus will be in their house on the square during the afternoon and everyone is reminded to bring their own camera to get photos of them with their kids."

Also in keeping with tradition, free hot dogs will be served to those 16 and under and there will be drawings for toys for kids throughout the afternoon as well. Many of the downtown businesses will also be open during the event, and a variety of vendors have already made plans to attend.

The annual Christmas Parade is set for 4 p.m., and afterward there will be drawings for two bicycles for those 14 and under. "We'd also like to remind everyone that you must be present to win for all the drawings," Glover added. Those taking part in the parade should line-up beginning at 3:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Piggott Elementary School, located on East Main Street.

There will be at least one new addition for this year, thanks to the Christmas Fest being held on a Sunday as a community worship service is set for 5 p.m.
