Mohawks Earn All-District Football Honors
Now that the football season is complete for the teams in 3A-3, the All-District selections have been released. For the Piggott Mohawks, under first year coach Michael Harrell, four members were selected for All-District honors while five more were recognized as honorable mentions.
Named to the All-District squad for their play this past season were three seniors, Nick McKinnie, Bradley Stephens and Eli Smith, along with one junior, Trace Stallings.
Stephens was also nominated by the conference coaches to represent 3A-3 as a punter in the annual All-Star game, set for next spring.
Meanwhile, one senior, three juniors and a sophomore were singled-out for honorable mention. The group includes senior Garrett Cook, juniors Landon Williams, Logan Dixon and John Daniel Beck and sophomore Bret Fuller.
All nine of the Mohawks selected for the post season honors were impact players, with the majority seeing time on both offense and defense along with special teams play.
The players were selected based on the vote of the coaches in 3A-3, and no coach is allowed to vote for their own players.
The Tribe ended their season with an emotional win over Corning to secure the Rice Bowl Trophy for another year, but came up just short of advancing to the state playoffs. Based on the underclassmen honored this year, and the players moving up from the district champion junior high squad, the prospects for the coming season look bright for the Tribe.
