W. F. "Dub" Smart

W. F. "Dub" Smart, 92, of Piggott, Ark., passed away Saturday, December 13, 2014, at the General Baptist Nursing Home in Campbell, Mo.

He was born on April 15, 1922, at Rector, Ark., and was the son of the late Ernest Washington and Mindy (Stokes) Smart.

He was united in marriage to Marguerite Crowson on March 7, 1942.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Kenny Delaine Smart on January 14, 1986, and by several brothers and sisters.

Dub was a World War II United States Army Veteran, receiving a Purple Heart medal and three Bronze Service Stars, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Tech Sergeant. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, attended the First United Methodist Church in Piggott, Ark., for many years and spent many years farming in the Piggott area.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Marguerite Smart; a daughter, LeiLani (Smart) Scallion and husband Dean of Piggott, Ark.; two granddaughters, Margret Katherine Bearden of Piggott, Ark. and Mary K. Linam and husband Tommy of Rector, Ark.; three great-grandchildren, Dylan Reed, Desirree, and Kenny; one half-brother, Ivan Smart of Greenway, Ark.; one half-sister, Katherine Webb of Clarksville, Tenn.; a step-sister, Wanda Wright of Cape Girardeau, Mo. and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014, in the Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home in Piggott, Ark. Burial is in Mitchell Cemetery in Greenway, Ark. Pallbearers are Mike Morgan, Neil Morgan, Neil Crowson, Joe Crowson, Jeff Smart, Randy Mikel and Jim Speer. Honorary Pallbearers are Terry Bearden and Tim Bearden. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Ark., is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be held beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
