The Lady Cougars garnered a 1-1 split in conference action over the past week, topping Cross County in Cherry Valley on Thursday before falling to the hosting East Poinsett County Lady Warriors in overtime Monday night in Lepanto.
Rector saw a six point advantage with two minutes remaining in regulation evaporate with late turnovers, as EPC fought back to force a bonus frame in 2A-3 conference play Monday night in Lepanto. RHS struggled some at the stripe, making seven of 13 free throws.
"We played pretty well," coach Matt Dean said of his squad. "I thought we played well enough to win, but we had some turnovers there late that hurt us, and that's my fault. It's one of those situations where we were ahead, but let them get back into it and got into overtime and got beat. That's my fault. I'm proud of the kids and how they're playing right now."
Rector moved to 7-5 overall and 3-2 in conference 2A-3.
The Junior Lady Cougars fell to EPC, 44-13.
EPC led after each period: 10-0; 21-2 and 36-10.
