Lady Cougars Fall to 'Hounds

The Lady Cougars fell to rival and 2A-3 powerhouse Marmaduke Thursday night in Rector, 54-26.

Marmaduke had control from the onset, leading at each quarter break: 13-5; 28-9 and 47-17.

Marmaduke standout Sidnee Bopp showcased her skills, leading all scorers with 22 on the night.

Matison Dean and Harmony Brown led Rector with nine and eight points, respectively. Also scoring for Rector were Dominique Coln 5, Marla Crancer 3 and Tori Hill 1.

Also scoring for the Lady Greyhounds were Madison Price 9, Brianna Hood 5, Kelsey McCoy 5, Shelby Blackburn 4, Allison Hampton 3, Abby Meredith 2, Adrianna Boling 2 and Shandan York 2.

The Junior Lady Greyhounds defeated the Junior Lady Cougars earlier in the evening, 44-14.

Marmaduke led throughout: 12-2; 24-9 and 31-13.

Gabby Clark paced Rector with six points. Also scoring for the Junior Lady Cougars were Mylessa Gant 4, Jackie Beck 2, Graci Patterson 1 and Kim Lamar 1.

Natalie Lentz led Marmaduke with 18 points on the night. Also scoring for the Junior Lady Greyhounds were Rachel Martin 8, Natalie Shelton 6, Anna Meredith 6, Reese Hampton 4 and Alyson Henry 2.

The Lady Cougars will take part in the annual Northeast Arkansas Invitational Tournament during the holidays. Rector, the four seed, will meet 13th seed Ridgefield-Christian at 3 p.m. Dec. 23. With a win, the Lady Cougars would face the winner of EPC-Armorel at 12 p.m. Dec. 27. The bracket's semifinals are set for 1:30 p.m. Dec. 30 with the final set for 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 31. The girls will resume regular season play when they visit BIC on Jan. 5.
