Gayla and Mark Book portray Mary and Joseph during the final night of the Hitts Chapel Baptist Church's Journey to Bethlehem Sunday evening.

For the 30th and final time, Hitts Chapel Baptist Church hosted their annual live nativity this past weekend as "Journey to Bethlehem" was held. The holiday season offering has been staged at the rural church since 1985, and over the decades has involved hundreds of participants. The turnout has also been impressive over the years, as tens of thousands have visited the local attraction.

Earlier this year the church congregation decided to end the effort in its current form, but also left the door open to continue the popular holiday offering in some other format or location.

For this, the final Journey to Bethlehem, organizers were blessed with relatively good weather for mid-December, as temperatures were moderate. In response, the crowds were good all three nights of this year's effort, as hundreds visited for the grand finale'.

Event organizers offered their thanks to all of the participants, volunteers and those who attended for making the final Journey to Bethlehem a special event.
