Lady Cougar Emma Hobbs fires a three in action from earlier this season. The Lady Cougars will return to the road Thursday night when they visit Earle.

The Lady Cougars battled conference foe Marked Tree in a 47-41 loss to the Lady Indians in Marked Tree Monday night.

The teams entered the final frame tied at 31-31, but Marked Tree's monster in the middle, Lexi Perry, proved too much for the Lady Cougars to handle inside.

"We couldn't keep her off the glass; couldn't keep her from getting looks inside," RHS coach Matt Dean said. "She's just so big and creates matchup problems for us. I thought we played hard and gave ourselves chances to win, but just didn't put it all together when we needed to."

Perry finished with a game-high 24 points, including 11 in the final stanza.

Rector trailed 15-9 after the first quarter and 22-19 going into halftime.

Tori Hill and Marla Crancer led the Lady Cougars with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Matison Dean finished with five points. The best news of the night saw the return of senior Brittany Fair from a severe knee injury from the first game of the season. Fair played lightly on the night, but managed to add three points for the Lady Cougars.

The Lady Cougars are currently 9-9 overall and 3-5 in 2A-3 conference play.

"We've been playing pretty well lately, especially on defense, and we're hopeful that will translate to more wins," Dean said. "We're happy to see Brittany back, and hope she can continue to progress."

The Junior Lady Cougars fell to Marked Tree, 18-13, on the night.

Maddie Hobbs led Rector with five points on the night. Gabby Clark and Gracie Patterson each scored three points, and Mylessa Gant added two for the Junior Lady Cougars.

Hillcrest Win

The Lady Cougars defeated host Hillcrest, 40-34, Thursday night.

Crancer and Hill finished with 14 points each to pace the Rector offense in the victory. Also scoring for the Lady Cougars was Dean with nine points and Colby Lynch with three.

The teams finished the first frame with a 7-7 tie. RHS led 16-14 at intermission and 27-22 through three quarters despite making just two of 10 free throw attempts. Hillcrest made eight of 13 at the line.

Katelyn Richey led Hillcrest with 21 points in the loss.

The Junior Lady Cougars fell to Hillcrest, 32-27.

Gant led Rector with 14 on the night. Also scoring for the Junior Lady Cougars were Clark 6, Jackie Beck 5 and Sawyer Hendrix 2.

Rector is set to visit Earle Thursday night. The girls will be on the road Monday to take on Riverside. The Lady Cougars are set to return to action in Rector on Jan. 26.
