Clay County Sheriff Terry Miller reports the suspect in a liquor store robbery which occurred north of Corning in early January, is now in custody.

Reports from the sheriff's department indicated that Lonnie Blanton, 52, of Corning was arrested Saturday, Jan. 10, near Datto. Blanton had been sought by regional authorities in connection with the armed robbery of the State Line Liquor Store on Saturday, Jan. 3. Miller also indicated Blanton was wanted by U.S. Marshals.

The report indicated Blanton was spotted around 5:30 p.m. Saturday by deputies on patrol on a county road near Datto, and just off U.S. Highway 67. The deputies then conducted a search of the area, and located Blanton in a rural area just inside the Missouri state line. He was then taken into custody without incident.

Miller indicated Blanton was later turned over to Butler County authorities, and remains in their custody in connection with the armed robbery.
