Firefighters store their equipment and prepare to leave the scene of Friday afternoon's house fire on Terminal Road in Piggott.

Piggott firefighters responded to a residential blaze around mid-day on Friday, Jan. 9, after fire broke out in the rear of a home on Terminal Road. Reports indicated the call went out at 12:30 p.m. after a fireman who was passing-by noticed the blaze at home of Deanna Harrington, at 648 Terminal Road.

Firefighters responded to the scene and were able to extinguish the blaze a short time later. Early indications from officials indicated the fire apparently started in the area where the home's power service is situated, and it was believed to have been electrical in nature.

Fire personnel remained on the scene for nearly two hours, and due to the response the street was closed to traffic for much of the afternoon. Water runoff from the fire also caused problems for motorists, as sub-freezing temperatures caused slick conditions on the adjacent city street.

Reports from the fire department indicated the home is the property of Z. J. Mayberry, and no damage estimates were immediately available. Luckily, there were no reported injuries in connection with the fire.

Piggott firefighters were also summoned to a location on North Fourth Avenue around 3:30 p.m. Saturday in response to a grass fire. Reports indicated the fire was reported at 1585 North Fourth Avenue, and firefighters remained on the scene until the blaze was extinguished.
