Lady Cougars Edged by Rebels
The Lady Cougars traveled to Caraway Monday night for a conference meeting with the always-tough Riverside Lady Rebels. Rector battled, but ultimately fell on the night, 36-30.
"We played hard, and continued to play well defensively like we have been lately, but we just didn't hit the big shots when we needed them," RHS coach Matt Dean said. "We hung tough and gave ourselves a chance to win, but we came up a little short."
Rector fell to 9-11 overall and 3-7 in 2A-3 on the night, with full stats from the game unavailable as the Times-Democrat went to press.
Matison Dean led the Lady Cougars with 11 points on the night. Also scoring for Rector were Brittany Fair 7, Marla Crancer 6 and Tori Hill 6.
Monday marked only the third time the Lady Cougars have had Fair on the court this season. The senior is battling her way back from a serious knee injury suffered in the very first game of this season.
The Junior Lady Cougars lost to Riverside, 45-17, in their meeting Monday night.
Mylessa Gant and Maddie Hobbs scored six points each to lead Rector on the night. Also scoring for the Junior Lady Cougars were Gabby Clark 3 and Shianne Rients 2.
Rector also fell in seventh grade action, 12-9.
Rileigh Laden led Rector with six points on the night. Makalia Rients, three points, and Kossie Huggins, two, also scored for the seventh graders.
The senior girls will host South Pemiscott County beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday in Rector. The girls are set to host Cross County beginning at 6 p.m. Monday and EPC at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 29. The planned seventh grade tournament set for this Saturday has been cancelled.
