Piggott's Logan Dixon puts up a long shot during the Tribe's recent home game with Caruthersville.

The Piggott Mohawks dropped a conference set at home to Rivercrest on Friday, Jan. 23, as they continue with the 3A-3 schedule. Tuesday evening they were slated to visit Hoxie, and Friday night they'll host cross-county rivals Corning for homecoming.

The Mohawks took on the talented Colts of Rivercrest Friday evening, and dropped a 64-42 decision. Cold shooting in both the first and fourth quarters doomed the Tribe, as they fell to 8-10 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

The Colts came out strong in the first quarter of play, and quickly ran out to a 27-12 lead after one. They Mohawks responded with a 15-11 second, but still trailed 38-27 at the break. The Colts outscored the Tribe 14-11 in the third, and 12-4 in the fourth, as they set the final score.

Leading the way for the Mohawks was Nick McKinnie with 16, while Nicholas Harris was also in double figures with 13. Quinton Mauldin had 7 for the Mohawks, Brayden Brewer returned from his injury and contributed 4 and Logan Dixon finished with 2 points. As a team the Mohawks shot a dismal 2 of 9 from the free throw line.

Williams paced the Rivercrest effort with 27 points, and was 6 of 8 from the charity stripe while the Colts were 7 of 11 as a team.

The junior Mohawks scored in double figures in only one quarter against the young Colts, as they dropped their game 56-29. Scoring by quarters had Rivercrest up 17-9 after one, 32-13 at the half and 46-19 going into the fourth quarter.

Leading the way for the Mohawks was eighth grader Trey Gossett with 7 points, all coming on free throws. The Tribe also got 5 points from Brett Burns in the loss, while Johnson led Rivercrest with 15.

Seventh Grade at Manila

The seventh grade Mohawks visited Manila and played a pair Saturday, Jan. 24, as they dropped games to the Lions and the Paragould Rams. In the early game the Tribe faced the 5A Rams and fell by a final of 44-26. In the second game the young Mohawks battled the Lions into overtime, but fell by a final of 42-39.

All of the boys teams were slated to be in action Tuesday evening at Hoxie, although finals were not available as of press time. They'll be back home Friday evening as they host the Corning Bobcats for homecoming, with the presentation of the court scheduled for around 7 p.m. between the junior and senior high games.

In a game not on the original schedule, the senior squad will also be in action at 5 p.m. this Saturday, Jan. 31, at Poplar Bluff as they take on the Cooter Wildcats. The game is being played at the Bess Activity Center, on the campus of Three Rivers College, and will be played prior to the Raiders contest with Southern Institute of Memphis which is slated to tip-off at 7 p.m.

The Tribe will return to conference play on Tuesday, Feb. 3, at Manila as they take on the Lions.
