The Lady Cougars notched a key conference victory in strong fashion Monday night in Rector, topping the visiting Lady Thunderbirds of Cross County, 51-34.

RHS spread the floor well to start the game, creating opportunities in the post and from the perimeter. Tori Hill, Matison Dean and Brittany Fair each hit treys in the opening frame with Dean and Marla Crancer hitting two shots each from mid-range. Colby Lynch added a shot in the post, and was joined in battling for offensive rebounds by Sophi Adams. By the time the first frame ended, the Lady Cougars were enjoying a 21-4 advantage.

The Lady Cougars added eight points in the second quarter on two baskets each from Adams and Kota Gunn. Rector led 29-12 going into intermission.

"Any win in our conference is a big deal," RHS coach Matt Dean said. "Any time you can pick up a win, it's a nice thing, especially in a league like ours where you've got some of the top teams in the state."

Rector improved to 11-11 overall and 4-7 in 2A-3 with the win.

The Lady Cougars disrupted the Cross County offense regularly on the night. Even when falling back to a halfcourt set, the Rector defenders were able to force Cross County into turning the ball over and forcing poor shots.

"We're playing excellent defense," coach Dean said. "Our pace is a little slower; we're not pressing as much."

Crancer led Rector with 12 points in the win. Fair and Matison Dean added nine points each. Also scoring for the Lady Cougars were Adams 6, Hill 5, Lynch 5, Dominique Coln 3 and Gunn 2.

The Junior Lady Cougars notched their first conference win of the season Monday night, defeating Cross County, 27-18.

Rector overcame a scoreless first quarter, trailing 5-0, to close within a point at halftime, 807. The Junior Lady Cougars went ahead 14-10 heading into the final frame.

Gabby Clark led Rector with nine points in the win. Mylessa Gant, Jackie Beck and Gracie Patterson scored six points each to round out the Junior Lady Cougar scorers. The victory was the team's second win of the season.

South Pemiscott Game

The Lady Cougars cruised to a 54-29 victory over South Pemiscott County Thursday night in Rector.

RHS led throughout: 19-5; 25-12 and 43-19.

Adams and Crancer were Rector's leading scorers on the night, netting 12 and 11, respectively. Also scoring for the Lady Cougars were Matison Dean 9, Fair 8, Hill 5, Lynch 4, Gunn 4 and Coln 1.

Natalie Crockett led South Pemiscott with 18 points on the night.

The Lady Cougars are set to host EPC beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday night in Rector. The girls are set to visit Marmaduke for a rival game Monday, Feb. 2, before welcoming BIC on Feb. 5.
