RHS Junior Girls Fall to Riverside
The season came to an end Saturday for the Rector junior girls in the first round of the District 2A-3 Tournament being played on their home court.
The Junior Cougars fell to second-seeded Riverside, 44-12.
Quarter leads for the winners were 15-4, 26-6 and 40-10.
Jackie Beck and Gracie Patterson scored four each for the Cougars and Gabby Clark and Mylesa Gant added two each.
Bailey Fisher led Riverside with 17 points.
Rector coach Matt Dean said it was a difficult season for a team that started four eighth graders.
"Our eighth graders got a lot of playing time," the coach said, "and hopefully with this experience it will be better for them next year."
The only ninth grade starter was Maddie Hobbs. Kim Lamar was the other ninth grader on the team.
Eighth graders returning next year include Beck, Patterson, Clark, Gant, Colbie Robinson, Shianne Rients, Sawyer Hendrix, Gracie Cox and Gracyn Robinson.
"If the players work hard in the offseason, we have an opportunity to have a lot better year next year," Dean said.
Other scores Saturday included Earle 44, Cross County 8; BIC 36, EPC 34, and Marmaduke 47, Marked Tree 20.
In semifinal action coming up Wednesday, top-seeded Earle meets fifth-seeded BIC at 4 p.m. and Riverside tests third-seeded Marmaduke at 6:30.
The championship game will be played at 3 p.m. Saturday.
