Re-Scheduled District Tourneys Set to Begin
Winter Storm Octavia continues to cause problems across Northeast Arkansas, as the region digs-out from ice, sleet and snow. And, thanks to the lingering effects school was out again Wednesday and the district basketball tournaments were once-again delayed.
In the 2A-3 basketball tournament at EPC has been pushed back to start on Thursday, with the schedule as follows:
> 1:00 - Earle vs Cross County (girls)
> 2:30 - EPC vs Rector (girls)
> 4:00 - Riverside vs Rector (boys)
> 5:30 - Marked Tree vs Cross County (boys)
> 7:00 - Marmaduke vs CRA (boys)
The winner of the Lady Cougar contest with EPC will face third-seeded Riverside at 7 p.m. Friday, and a win in the second round would gain them a showdown with second-seeded Marked Tree at 4 p.m. Saturday with the winner advancing to the girls' district final, which is now set for 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 23.
Meanwhile, in the boy's bracket the winner of the Cougars and Rebels would earn a spot in the quarter-finals, and a contest with the Mustangs of BIC at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. The winner of that game will meet EPC in the semi-finals at 5:30 Saturday with the boy's championship game set for 7:30 Monday, Feb. 23.
The top four teams in both the boys and girls brackets will advance to the regional basketball tournament. The regional is being played at BIC, and is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 25, through Saturday, Feb. 28 in the Mustang Athletic Complex.
Meanwhile, the 3A-3 at Manila is scheduled to begin Thursday evening with the games which were originally set for Monday night. This includes the Lady Mohawks and Osceola in the 4 p.m. game and the Mohawks against Corning in the 8:30 contest. Meanwhile, the semi-finals will be played Saturday and the championship games Monday, unless weather conditions warrant another delay.
With a win the Lady Mohawks will advance to take on Corning at 2:30 Saturday afternoon, while the Mohawks will take on Rivercrest at 6:30 Saturday evening with a win over Corning.
The championship games are set for 6 p.m. for the girls and 7:30 p.m. for the boys Monday, Feb. 23.
The top four teams from each bracket will advance to the 3A-Region 3 basketball tournament, set for Wednesday through Saturday, Feb. 25 to 28, and also being held at Manila High School.
