Single Parent Scholarships Awarded in Clay County
Recently, the Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Clay County awarded three scholarships for the spring semester to Clay County residents. During the awards ceremony scholarships were distributed to a student from Rector, one from Piggott and another from Corning.
The recipients included Cody Feagin of Corning, who received $1,000 from the United Way of Northeast Arkansas and the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund. Meanwhile, Jo Adams of Rector received $1,000 from Entergy and the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund. The third recipient was Kasey Rees of Piggott, who received $1,000 from the Arkansas Department of Higher Education and the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund.
On hand to make the presentations was Clay County SPSF board member Duane Dutka.
Scholarship recipients Feagin and Adams are on track to graduate this coming May, while Rees will be continuing her education.
The Clay County scholarships are funded by companies and by local donations from individuals. All members of the SPSF of Clay County also make personal donations to the cause, which are matched 160 percent by the Arkansas SPSF.
Those wanting additional information on the effort, and those interested in applying for a scholarship, may contact Annette Dutka at the Clay County Department of Human Services office in Piggott by calling 870 598-2282, ext. 5.
