Piggott Firefighters Respond to Blaze

Monday, February 23, 2015
Piggott firefighters contended with bitter cold and ice as they fought this early morning fire on Monday in the city.

Piggott firefighters were summoned to a residential fire Monday morning, at 511 East Davis Street in the city. The blaze was restricted to just the one residence, which was reportedly occupied at the time of the fire, although a neighboring home did sustain heat damage.

The call came in just after 7 a.m., and firefighters found the effort difficult due to a metal roof on the home. They later used a backhoe to push the building down to allow them to get water onto the blaze. Later, just after 9 a.m. they were summoned back to the scene after the blaze rekindled.

No injuries were reported, although firefighters were hampered by ice and wind chill factors in the single digits.

More details may be found in the Feb. 25 print edition of the CCTD.
