Winter Storm Thor Blasts Heartland

Wednesday, March 4, 2015

With the remnants of Winter Storm Octavia just melting away, Winter Storm Thor is set to cover the region in another coat of frozen precipitation. So far the storm is being blamed for four deaths in the midwest.

All of the region is under a Winter weather warning through Thursday morning, and is currently under a flash flood watch due to rain and runoff from melting ice and snow.

The temperature is expected to drop throughout the afternoon on Wednesday, with lows in the teens forecast for overnight. As a result, the rain is expected to slowly change to freezing rain, then sleet and finally snow during the overnight hours. Some forecast models are calling for upwards of eight inches of total accumulation before the storm ends early Thursday morning.

Everyone is reminded to take extra precautions in preparing for the winter weather, and should make extra effort to check on homebound and elderly neighbors.

And, as always, all of the latest winter weather watches, warnings, advisories and forecasts may be found here on the CCTD website.
