Cougar Softball and Baseball Teams Post Wins
Both the Cougar softball and baseball teams posted wins in the past week.
The Rector High School Cougars moved to 3-0 on the baseball season with a 14-3 win over host Cross County on Monday.
Lawson Ford started on the mound, throwing three innings and striking out five Cross County batters. Sam Westbrook pitched two innings striking out three. Ford also picked up the win.
Offensively Ford was 1 for 1, continuing his perfect season at the plate. Danny Hager drove in four runs and Mason McCluskey, Dalton Murray and Zephyr Tinsley each had one hit. The team notched seven runs in both the second and third innings.
Cougar coach Robert Dorman said Ford and Westbrook both did well on the mound and offensively the team hit the ball well.
"The schedule's about to get a lot tougher, so we're about to see what we're made of," he added.
The Cougars' game against Corning scheduled last Friday was cancelled due to rain.
Upcoming games include hosting Marked Tree at 5 p.m. Thursday and a tournament will be played Friday and Saturday in Paragould. The Cougars will then be at home against Buffalo Island Central on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Lady Cougar Softball team pounded the host Cross County Thunderbirds in conference action Monday, rolling to a 16-1 verdict.
Emma Hobbs led the team with four RBIs and two hits. Tori Hill, Matison Dean, Colby Lynch and Lindsay Shelton all had two hits apiece, adding up to a grand total of 14 hits for the Rector team.
Colby Lynch pitched all four innings, striking out seven batters, walking three and only giving up two hits to Cross County.
The Rector High School softball team is scheduled to host Riverside on Thursday and Marked Tree on Monday. They are also scheduled to compete at Marmaduke on Tuesday, April 7, and at Buffalo Island Central on Thursday, April 9.
