Lady Greyhounds Off to Strong Start
Sammi Henry pitched a perfect game, leading the Marmaduke Lady Greyhounds to a 7-0 win over host Marked Tree Thursday, making them 6-1 overall for the season and 6-0 in conference.
Henry pitched all seven innings, allowing no hits and no walks while striking out five Marked Tree batters.
Marmaduke had two hits and a run in the third; three runs, three hits and a walk in the fourth; and three runs and two walks in the sixth.
Brittany Banning had one hit and scored two runs, Bailey Bridges hit one and two RBIs, Natalie Lentz had one hit and scored two runs. Tabitha Hyten, April Kennedy and Brooke Swearingen each got one hit.
"Being 6-1, we're off to a great start," coach Steve Richey said. "Henry did some great pitching, but we're not hitting the ball as well as I'd like. This week we're against some top teams, so we'll see how we do."
Greyhound games scheduled for Monday against Riverside and Tuesday against Rector were cancelled due to wet conditions. They are scheduled to play at Buffalo Island Central today (Wednesday) and will play at East Poinsett County on Thursday, if weather permits.
