Custom Pedal Car Raffle Underway
Planning continues for the upcoming Piggott Heritage Car Show and Cruise, set for May 15 to 17, and currently the organizers are conducting a number of fundraisers to help defray expenses. One effort is a raffle drawing for a customized 1951 Garton "Kidillac" pedal car and chances are currently on sale.
"This is a 1952 pedal car, but it has been extensively customized," noted car show committee member Tony Pace. "It was built to replicate the old lead sleds of the 1950s and 60s and was customized by artists in Ohio and Pennsylvania."
The custom car has been lowered an inch and one-half in the front, and three-quarters of an inch in the rear. It was fitted with custom taillights, a continental kit, fender skirts, custom interior and top boot and was painted a deep candy apple red. The car was also custom pin striped, and comes with a custom foam-lined travel case.
"In keeping with the theme, the artist who did the pin striping named it the "Ped Sled" and painted that on the back of the car," Pace added. "The custom metal work and paint was done by Tom Vargas, of Youngstown, Ohio, while Leis Upholstery of Fallston, Penn., did the upholstery and top boot and Guy Shively, of Youngstown, Ohio, did the pin striping."
The Piggott Heritage Group is selling chances on the car for $1 each, or six for $5, and the drawing will be held at the conclusion of this year's show, on Sunday, May 17. "You don't have to be present to win," Pace added.
In recent weeks the car has been on display at a number of regional car shows, including last Saturday's event at Dexter. When it's not "on the road" it is on display at Jones Furniture in Piggott.
Tickets are available at Jones Furniture, along with Cox Lumber Company and The Piggott Diner.
Early registration continues through Wednesday, April 15, for the 2015 Piggott Heritage Car Show. This year the show will be held May 15 to 17, with the majority of activities taking place at Heritage Park. Organizers note there will be a number of new categories including, UTV's, ATV's, motorcycles and antique tractors as well as classic and street rod cars and trucks.
Early registration for this year's show is $25 for the first vehicle and $5 each for additional vehicles belonging to the same owner. The registration fee will increase to $35 following the April 15, cutoff. A special $20 rate also applies to entries who will only be taking part in the Saturday activities.
