Carolyn Rosella Burris
Carolyn Rosella Burris, 76, of Piggott, Ark., passed away, April 24, 2015, at the Piggott Community Hospital.
She was born in Greenway, Ark., on February 18, 1939, and was the daughter of the late Emil and Edith (Book) Simpson.
She was united in marriage to Donald Burris on March 28, 1958, and to this union three children were born.
Carolyn graduated from Greenway High School in 1957, and enjoyed keeping in touch with her classmates through the years. She was a member of the Greenway Church of Christ. Carolyn worked as a secretary for C.W. Knauts for many years and then worked at the Piggott Hospital as the Director of Medical Records. In 1989 she graduated from ASU with a Nursing Degree later working for Home Health at the Piggott Hospital. She also was Secretary/Treasurer for the Mitchell Cemetery Association for many years. Carolyn enjoyed reading, sewing and everyone loved her cooking especially her dumplings and coconut and lemon pies. Carolyn was a devoted wife and mother.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Lewis Wendall Simpson.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Donald Burris of Piggott, Ark.; three children, Mark Allen Burris and wife Sherri of Piggott, Ark., Donna Dene Hagler and husband Crandal of Paragould, Ark. and Sherry Darlene Brady and husband David of Bon Aqua, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Emilie Ralston, Calvin Hagler, Cody Burris and Sierra Burris; two great-grandchildren, Samuel and Benjamin Ralston; siblings, Bessie Mae Fielder and husband Bill of Greenway, Ark., Don Franklin Simpson and wife Jean of Piggott, Ark., Curtis Larry Simpson and wife Janice of Lampasas, Tex., Maggie Brigman and husband Bill of Campbell, Mo.; half sister, Junell Johnson of Memphis, Tenn. and a very special friend, Jane Cook along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 27, 2015, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Jason Williams officiating. Burial is in Mitchell Cemetery in Greenway. Pallbearers are Calvin Hagler, Cody Burris, Mike Hill, Kenny Collier, Carl Edward Lovelady and Jimmy Burris. Honorary pallbearers are the Greenway Class of 1957: Gerald Adams, Paul Bond, Donald Box, W.C. "Dub" Cook, John Copeland, and Joe Underwood. Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Arkansas, is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation was held Sunday beginning at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
